"Dankzij jullie kunnen we de geest van vrede en hoop vasthouden. Wij zijn één Amerikaanse familie."

Dat is de vertaling van de NOS, blijkbaar voor de zéér eenvoudigen onder ons, van dit gedeelte uit Obama's overwinningsrede:

"[The task of perfecting our union] moves forward because of you. It moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has lifted this country from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope, the belief that while each of us will pursue our own individual dreams, we are an American family, and we rise or fall together as one nation and as one people."

"You reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war"? Obama gaf in 2011 meer uit aan militaire zaken dan de volgende hoogste defensiebudgetten van 13 landen bij elkaar. Dat is wat de Amerikaanse kiezer werkelijk herbevestigd heeft. Thank you for voting.
