Waarom is dit belangrijk?

De afwijzing van ACAA is van belang voor bevordering van vrede en gerechtigheid. Wij vinden dat de EU, in zijn overeenkomsten met derde landen, mensenrechten en fundamentele waarden moet bevorderen en in acht nemen De voordelen die aan de goedkeuring van deze overeenkomsten worden ontleend mogen niet worden gefundeerd op schendingen van het internationaal recht, illegale of onrechtvaardige exploitatie van hulpbronnen en/of oneerlijke en discriminerende praktijken. In het geval van de EU-Israël ACAA overeenkomst, willen de EU-burgers niet profiteren van de Israëlische controle over Palestijns land, belemmeringen voor het verkeer van goederen en mensen en exploitatie van natuurlijke hulpbronnen door de Israëlische autoriteiten, en evenmin van de gedwongen afhankelijkheid van Palestijnen van Israëlische regelgeving en beleid waardoor toekomstige duurzame groei in de Bezette Gebieden wordt belemmerd terwijl Israëlische industrie wordt bevoordeeld.

The rejection of the EU-Israel Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of industrial products (ACAA) is important for the promotion of peace and justice. In its agreements with third countries, we believe that the EU should promote and respect human rights and fundamental values. The benefits brought by the adoption of such agreements should not be built on breaches of international law, unlawful or inequitable exploitation of resources and/or unfair and discriminatory practices. In the case of the EU-Israel ACAA, EU citizens do not want to benefit from Israeli control over Palestinian land; obstacles to the movement of goods and people and exploitation of natural resources by the Israeli authorities; and the forced dependency of Palestinians on Israeli regulations and policies which impedes prospects of sustainable growth in the OPT and benefits Israeli industries.
